Ketoconazole + Coaltar shampoo is a drug combination used in the treatment of dandruff and control of seborrheic dermatitis. The drug formulation is available in the form of shampoo, applied externally on the scalp to get the desired results. The shampoo is composed of Ketoconazole which is an antifungal and Coal Tar which is a keratolytic agent. Coal tar comes under the class of drugs known as keratoplastic which works by removing dead cells from the skin’s top layer and slowing down skin cells' growth. This decreases scaling and dryness, thus relieving itching and cracking related to dandruff.

Ketoconazole is an antifungal agent that works by preventing the growth of dandruff-causing fungi by preventing them from forming their own protective covering. Use the shampoo as per the dosage instructions given by the doctor. The shampoo is only for external application, in case it comes in contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina, immediately rinse with water and immediately contact your doctor. Drench your hair and scalp completely in lukewarm water. Take a generous amount of shampoo to produce enough lather. Gently massage it on your entire scalp for a few minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and repeat the process if needed. 

If treating skin other than the scalp, wet the skin and apply the shampoo to the affected area and the surrounding healthy skin. Lather and leave in place for 5 minutes, then rinse off with water.
